Uncontested Election of Parish Council Leaves one Vacant Seat …..
There will be no election for Gurnard Parish Council on 1st May 2025 – you can put your feet up rather than heading up to the Hall to do your civic duty on that date.
However, when the parish council is reconvened in early May there will still be a vacancy for a councillor (only eight valid nomination were made) so there is an opportunity for one more eligible person to step forward and be co-opted to the council.
Interested?
Brilliant! This is what you need to do:
1) Check you are eligible (basic requirements – live in or very close to Gurnard, are over 18 and on the electoral register) 2) Contact the clerk to GPC (clerk@gurnardparishcouncil.gov.uk) for an ‘Expression of Interest’ pro-forma, complete it and return to the clerk by 7th May.
3) The clerk will acknowledge receipt after the 7th May, inform you whether or not you are the only person to express interest and invite you to attend the Annual Council Meeting (ACM).
4) Attend the ACM on 14th May (6.30 at Gurnard Village Hall) where, if more than one expression of interest has been received, you may be asked some questions by councillors before a secret ballot is held to make the choice of co-opted councillor.
5) If you receive more than 50% of the votes you will be asked to sign a Standard Acceptance form and then join the council meeting as a councillor of equal standing then and there.
