My connection with Gurnard trails back over 100 years. My mother was born in 1943 in The Hillbrow, when it was a nursing home, her Aunties and Uncles living in the village many years prior to this, and there are 2 first cousins still living here.
Both my son and daughter attended the delightful old Gurnard Primary School, and I took great pride in being Chair of the PTA for several years, raising lots of money for the school and organising events.
Myself and my husband, Andy, own over 5 acres of land just off Rew Street; our land is my dream come true. We have planted literally 1000’s of native trees and willow beds for basket making. We are the proud owners of 5 sheep, 3 pigs, 2 ponies and chickens. When not working you will always find me there whatever the weather! We also own 4 rescue dogs, and in the last 10yrs have rescued 6 Romanian Street dogs.
Born on the Island, at 18yrs old I moved to London where I trained firstly as a Registered General Nurse and then as a police officer, eventually combining both part time. I moved back to the Island 23 years later when my children were small so they could experience growing up in this beautiful place.
I am now working on the Dementia Outreach team, supporting dementia sufferers and their families in crises. This illness is all too common in our aging population and I am happy to chat to anyone who may be struggling or would like some advice. I also work on the Coronary Care Unit.
Being on Gurnard Parish Council for the last 7yrs has opened my eyes to just how much potential our village has; there are exciting times ahead for Gurnard, allowing residents new opportunities. I feel positive about the future and want to be a part of making a real difference for our community.
