ExxonMobil Solent CO2 Pipeline Project
On the 3rd of October 2024 it was widely reported that the CO2 pipeline plan by Exxon Mobil has been axed,
As reported by the BBC, A spokesperson for the company said the decision was a result of the “continued lack of government policy certainty”.
They said: “Our major investment decisions are informed by several factors including the policy, fiscal and market environment.
We are keeping the information available on this page for reference until it is clear that this plan has indeed been axed for good! but it will no longer be updated as of 03-Oct-2024.
It has also been noticed that the Exxon Mobil project website has been taken down.

Exxon Mobil was seeking approval to install an underground pipeline to transport captured CO2 from the Fawley complex to a ‘safe and secure storage location’ in the English Channel via a route through the new forest or across the Isle of wight.
Put simply, the project seeks to lay a 60cm diameter steel ‘underground’ pipeline from the Fawley site out to sea, by cutting a trench across one of three proposed land ‘corridors’, two across the Isle of Wight, the third between Fawley and New Milton. Along the selected corridor, ExxonMobil will be looking for approval to clear a 50 metres wide route of all topsoil to provide the working space in which to install a steel pipe just 60 centimetres in diameter.
The two routes across the Isle of Wight are both proposed to land at Gurnard where a landing station will likely need to be constructed.
Link to Solent Protection society description of project and its likely impacts to Isle of Wight and in particular Gurnard There are a series of meeting planned by Exxon Mobil to explain the proposal and we would urge you to attend and then respond to the consultation with your views.
