- Provision of training plan for councillors (Chair)
There are a number of areas where training for councillors could be beneficial, and the council do have money in the budget to provide this. Areas could include:
- GDPR training for all councillors
- Training provided by IWALC
- Rolling rota of councillors joining agenda setting meetings
- Mentoring for new councillors.
A draft of a councillor training plan has been circulated with this agenda.
Proposal: That the plan for Councillor Training be approved (or amended and approved).
- Annual Council Plan (Chair)
In previous years the parish council have had an annual plan of meetings, events and requirements over the course of the year in order to help in planning resources etc.
Proposal:
- That a draft annual plan is produced by Chair and Clerk (with input from councillors) to be presented at the June Full Council meeting.
- That consideration of the plan be a standing agenda item on all committee and sub-committee meetings.
- Working with Cowes and Northwood Councils (Chair)
As the inadequate standard of communication with local councils has recently been highlighted by the closure of the Newport Road, organisation of regular meetings, bi-monthly or quarterly perhaps, with Chair/Vice chairs to discuss matters which impact the three neighbouring councils of Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood seems a sensible idea. Clerking to rotate around the three councils. Aim is to present a stronger voice for first tier councils to receive communications from IWC and other bodies (e.g. SW) in a more timely fashion, as well as providing support for each other on shared services open to residents of the three parishes e.g. Cowes Library, Northwood Cemetery, Cowes Food Bank and Food Pantry etc.
Proposal: That, once new chairs are in place for all three local councils, the clerks and chairs are approached, by Gurnard clerk, with the suggestion of having formal joint meetings on a regular basis.
