The minutes of the meeting of Gurnard Parish Council held at 18:30 on Wednesday 12th February 2025 at Gurnard Village Hall, Westbrook Lane, Gurnard, PO31 8JR.

 

Present: Councillors Acton (Chair), Bugden, Franklin, Fuller, Jacobs, and Nolan

Clerk: Richard Shaul

 

No members of the public were present.

 

The meeting started at 18:30

  1. Minutes

The minutes of the Full Council meeting of 8thth January 2025 were taken as read, approved as a correct record and signed by the chair.

 

  1. Planning, licensing and tree preservation order applications
  2. There were no new planning applications to consider.

 

  1. There were no new planning decisions to note.

 

  1. Reports

    4. GVHA – Minutes for the December GVHA had been received

  2. Cheque and electronic payments in January 2025:
    1. There were 5 payments totalling £2,902.94 were paid in January 2025 but not yet approved at a council meeting.

Resolved: Approved

  1. Beach Working party meeting notes (chair)

Notes from the Beach Woking party meeting held on 3rd February were distributed prior to the meeting.

  1. Resolved: That the Clerk, on behalf of GPC, makes a formal request to Southern Water for support to ensure water testing is undertaken at Gurnard Beach on a daily basis, throughout the year with samples taken at Gurnard Beach and processing taking place in Sandown.

 

  1. The proposal that GPC look into the feasibility of posting data from the GVH weather station on the GPC website on an historical and a daily basis was not required as Cllr Franklin has already done this. GPC would like to thank Cllr Franklin for his work in this respect.

 

  1. Resolved: That, regarding the reinstatement of groyne at Gurnard beach, that ocve adequate information has been received regarding the work on the groyne, this be advertised to residents and beach users via both GPC and GSC website, by notice to The Dippers WhatsApp group and other appropriate social media sites as well as by printed posters in the beach area. (Action – Chair)

 

  1. Resolved: That, regarding the footpath through Spencers Wood that, on behalf of GPC, the clerk writes to the appropriate IWC council officer to request an urgent update on what has happened to the application (made over two years ago) to register the dog leg footpath through Spencer’s Wood and provide a Public Footpath number.
  2. Old School Meadow working party notes (chair)

Notes from the Old School Meadow working party meeting held on 23rd January were distributed prior to the meeting. Some of the recommendations from the meeting were discussed at the Facilities meeting on 29th January.

Proposal: that GPC agree the following additional recommendations:

  1. A proposal that the Denham family tree which suffered catastrophic damage at time of Storm Darragh be replaced by GPC was not seconded and so no resolution was made.

 

  1. Resolved: That a tree commemorating the original Gurnard School and all the children who enjoyed the orchard be planted by GPC to a cost of £100

 

  1. Defibrillators (Clerk)

The defibrillator sited at Gurnard Village Hall has recently been moved to the outside of the hall installed in an appropriate cabinet. IoW defibrillators have offered to take over the monthly maintenance and upkeep of both GPC’s defibrillators. This is a service that do for a number of IoW councils in exchange for a modest donation.

Resolved: That the Clerk writes to IoW defibrillators to summarise the services that they will perform.
